How to make slides

Title should be the first page of slides.

Spend 2-3 mins for each slide

Use a point format, not complete sentences.

3-5 points on each slide (3 recommended)

Avoid wordiness, only keyword

Points to be covered

  • Outlines
  • Slide structure
  • Fonts
  • Colors
  • Backgrounds
  • Graphs
  • Spelling and grammar
  • Conclusion
  • Questions

Outlines

  • The second page of slides.
  • Follow the order of your outline for the rest of the presentation.
  • Only place main points on the outline. Ex) use the titles of each slide

Fonts

  • At least 18-point font
  • Different size fonts for main points and secondary
  • Use a standard font like Times New Roman or Arial

Colors

  • Choose color which contrast sharply with background

Ex) Black with light blue background

Blue font on a white background

  • Use color to reinforce the logic of your structure.
  • Use color to emphasize

Background

  • Avoide backgrounds that are distraction
  • No animation unless it’s necessary

Graphs

  • Use graphs rather than just charts and words
  • Always title your graph
  • Label every space
  • no minor gridlines

Spelling and Grammar

  • Proofread your slide for

-  spelling mistakes

-  the use of repeated words

  • Have someone else edit your presentation

Conclusion

  • Use an effective and strong point
  • Use a conclusion slide to

- summarize the points

- show avenue

Questions

  • End your presentation with a simple question slide
  • Invite audience to ask questions
  • Avoid ending a presentation abruptly
  • Provide a visual aid
